How to Sleep Next to Someone Who Snores (Without Moving Out)

Nobody talks about how much of a relationship problem this becomes. It starts as a joke, becomes an irritation, and somewhere around month eight one of you is on the sofa telling yourself it's temporary.

Snoring is loud, irregular and unpredictable — which is precisely the combination the human brain is worst at ignoring. A constant hum you can adapt to. A sound that stops, starts and changes pitch keeps pulling you back to the surface of sleep all night, even when it never fully wakes you.

Why the usual advice falls short

"Just go to sleep first." Works until you wake at 3 a.m., which you will.

White noise machines. Genuinely useful, but they mask steady sound better than irregular sound — and now there are two noises in the room.

Separate bedrooms. Effective, and a real option for some couples. But most people want it as a last resort, not a first one.

Foam earplugs. The default, and the reason most people conclude earplugs don't work. They expand against your ear canal, they ache under the weight of your head, and by 3 a.m. one of them is somewhere in the bed.

What actually helps

  • Deal with the cause where you can. Side-sleeping, weight, alcohol before bed and nasal congestion all make snoring worse. Loud snoring with pauses in breathing is worth a doctor's visit — it can indicate sleep apnoea, which is a medical issue rather than a nuisance.
  • Go to bed at the same time. Falling asleep together beats falling asleep to a soundtrack.
  • Use earplugs that were designed for lying down. This is the part most people get wrong — see below.
  • Add gentle steady sound. A fan or low white noise underneath earplugs works better than either alone.

The earplug part

If you sleep on your side — and most people do — the shape matters more than anything else. Any plug with a stem, a ring or a handle standing proud of your ear becomes a pressure point the second your head lands on the pillow. That's what wakes you, and it's why people give up.

Look for a genuinely flush profile, soft silicone rather than expanding foam, and multiple tip sizes in the box. A plug that doesn't seal properly does nothing at all, and almost nobody is the size they assume they are.

Where LOOPLUNN fits

LOOPLUNN Night Deep is the pair built for exactly this: the same flush, side-sleeper shape as our standard pair, with a denser core for loud, irregular noise. Five tip sizes in every box.

Most people buy two boxes — usually because only one of them snores. Sealed boxes can be returned within 14 days; once a box is open, hygiene rules mean it stays with you, so start with the sizing guide and write to us if it isn't right.
