Day sleep is harder than night sleep, and it isn't your fault. You're fighting daylight, a body clock that expects you to be awake, and a world that has decided this is the right time for deliveries, drilling and conversation in the hallway.
The three things working against you
Light. Even through closed eyelids, daylight suppresses melatonin. Blackout matters more for day sleepers than for anyone else.
Noise. Daytime noise is not just louder, it's more varied — doorbells, traffic, neighbours, post. Irregular sound disrupts sleep far more than steady sound at the same volume.
Your circadian rhythm. Your body is producing cortisol to wake you up at exactly the moment you're trying to go down.
What works
- Keep the schedule consistent, including days off. This is the single highest-impact change, and the hardest one socially.
- Wear sunglasses on the commute home. Odd-looking, genuinely effective — it stops the morning light resetting your clock.
- Full blackout. Blackout blinds plus a mask. Half-measures don't work here.
- Cool room. 16–19°C. Bodies sleep badly when warm, and daytime rooms are warmer.
- Tell people your hours. A note on the door stops more interruptions than you'd expect.
- Earplugs that survive a full sleep cycle. Day sleep is often broken into shorter blocks — comfort matters even more.
Choosing earplugs for day sleep
You need something you can wear for seven or eight hours without noticing, that stays put when you roll over, and that doesn't ache under the weight of your head. That rules out foam, which expands against the canal and gets thrown away every couple of nights, and it rules out anything with a stem or ring standing proud of the ear.
Look for a flush profile, soft silicone, and multiple tip sizes so you can find one that genuinely seals.
Where LOOPLUNN fits
LOOPLUNN sits flush inside the ear — nothing reaches past the outer edge, so there's nothing for a pillow to press against. Every box includes five tip sizes and an aluminium case small enough to live in a work bag.
If daytime noise is the main problem rather than light, start with Night Deep. Either way, an unopened box can go back within 14 days.
